Quote of the Day...

  • "It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power." Alan Cohen

The Power of the Present

Day 13 - The Power of the Present

Wow do I struggle with this one.  Today is about learning to just be. Not think about the past or what will happen next. Not in 5 minutes, 5 weeks, 5 months or 5 years.  I have to admit, this is kind of like when I meditate or pray, I relax sometimes too much and fall asleep. Yes I know, I am not doing it the right way. *lol*  I say that in a self loving non judgemental way.

Being truly present is being aware of everything that is happening in your mind, body and soul, as well as experiencing what is around you. The smells, the sights, the tastes and the sounds.  But don't let them distract you, just be in the moment.

If you can do just this, you can harness the opportunities that you can see surround you.  If you can stay in this moment, your mind can truly rest. If you can stay in this moment, there is no past haunting you, no future calling for you to create, fantasize or fear it. You can simply relax, feel happy and contented.

While your past can inform you and your future inspire you, the moment of choice is within this space. Give this gift to yourself, as often as you can.

Start by sitting still for 10 minutes. Be aware of your surroundings, smells etc., write down anything that distracts you so your mind can release it. Count how many times your mind has wandered to the obsessions of the past of your obsessions of the future. You will be amazed. Try to reduce this every day.

Is there something you can love about yourself right now, in this moment, that requires no change or effort, that will bring you closer to your goal? What could you do in this moment to make you feel like you want to?

Go ahead, try it, you know you want to!
